TELL US ABOUT A MEMORY YOU HAVE WHICH

CONNECTS YOU TO YOUR HERITAGE

TP

A memory that connects me to my heritage was when Ghana played England at Wembley stadium in 2011 and I went with my family. It was an amazing experience because it was the coming together of the two countries that have defined who I am. It was good vibes. They drew 1-1 so everyone was happy.

HOW HAS LIVING IN LONDON SHAPED AND INFLUENCED YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

TP

Living in London has shaped my perspective on my heritage in an interesting way. I feel aspects of the British culture are amazing and I feel pride in being a beneficiary of some of them. However, I think there are things which make it difficult to be a black british-born Ghanaian. I don't think my cultures clash but I often feel a greater sense of belonging when I am in Ghana. London is my home because it is the only place I have ever lived (other than a few years away for Uni) and it is my city. The people, the multiculturalism, 'the City' just makes sense to me. It is also where I have started my professional career and hope to establish myself.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS BEHIND THE VISUAL AND

OUTFIT YOU HAVE CURATED FOR STYLING HERITAGE

TP

Kente cloth is predominantly the clothing of choice in Ghana. "Kente cloth comes from a textile practice that originated in Ghana centuries ago. The fabric has come to symbolize cultural affiliations from West Africa across the diaspora, but legend has it that a spider spinning a complex web inspired the earliest kente techniques and designs. Weaving kente cloth is a cultural tradition of the Asante (also known as Ashanti) people, and these fabrics were originally used exclusively to dress kings and their courts."

WHAT IS YOUR HERITAGE?

TP

I was born and raised in London and am very much a Londoner but my parents were both born in Ghana. My mum came over to England when she was a child but my parents are both very much Ghanaian and I have been raised to be proud of where I come from and my rich ancestry.
