TELL US ABOUT A MEMORY YOU HAVE WHICH

CONNECTS YOU TO YOUR HERITAGE

DM

My first time going to a ‘Juneteenth’ festival as a child was amazing; it was the very first time I saw black people happy and celebrating our own culture and African heritage. It was just so beautiful to see happiness and love in a sea of African diaspora; as one family.

HOW HAS LIVING IN LONDON SHAPED AND INFLUENCED YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?

DM

I’ve always kept my NY based style at the forefront of my personal fashion; But the oversized look in London fashion has been something I have started to incorporate into my style now.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR THOUGHTS BEHIND THE VISUAL AND

OUTFIT YOU HAVE CURATED FOR STYLING HERITAGE

DM

My thought behind the outfit I have chosen to wear was to represent all black designers as a representation of my blended black heritage. My goal, generally and in the case of Issue 01 Styling Heritage, is to focus on unity and collaborative efforts of the African diaspora globally.

Jacket - Exhibit 69. Hat, raw denim jeans and sweatshirt - Art Comes First. Shoes - Yeezy.

WHAT IS YOUR HERITAGE?

DM

My father is Haitian, French, Native American and my mother is North West African, Jamaican, Irish, English and Native American.
